Seniors Internal Competitions - Overview 

The dates for all seniors competitions are published in the club diary, Club V1 and in the trifold leaflet that is available to section members after the Seniors AGM.

Monthly Stableford Competitions are held in January, February, March, April, May and October. Course permitting these are handicap qualifiers played from the Yellow Tees. Information on each competition is on Club V1 and notification goes on the Seniors Notice Board in the Locker Room approximately 3 weeks in advance. Sign up is on the day. Count-back is applied and prizes go to the top 3 positions and 2-spot winners.
April’s Competition is also used as the Bernie Cup Qualifier. 

Bernie Cup: The top 16 from the April competition qualify for the knock out stage. A draw is made and a knock-out competition then follows to decide the winner. The knock-out stages run from May to August.

The two medal competitions below are qualifier competitions and played from the Yellow Tees. Information on each competition is on Club V1 and notification goes on the Seniors Notice Board in the Locker Room approximately 3 weeks in advance. Sign up is on the day. Count-back is applied and prizes go to the top 3 positions and 2-spot winners. 

The Air Commodore’s Spoon is in June.
 

The Calamity Jane Putter is in July. The player with the lowest nett score is the “Seniors Strokeplay Champion”.

 Pairs Competitions run throughout the year. These are knock-out competitions and limited to 32 pairs. Notification of each competition goes on the Seniors Notice Board in the Locker Room approximately 4 weeks in advance. Random draws are made and published. The teams are expected to play their matches to the published schedule.
 

Back to Back is a 4BBB competition. This runs from April to September.
 

Fletcher Foursomes competition. This runs from July to October.
 

Stanley Pinder is also a foursomes competition. This runs from November to March 

The Seniors Closed is a Stableford Competition. This is the premier internal stableford competition, usually held in September. Due to the number of entries this is a shotgun start. The competition is divided into two handicap divisions with divisional prize winners down to 6th place. The competitor with best score receives the Tom Palmer Trophy and the best aged over 75 the Veterans Cup. All entry fees are returned as prizes 

The Roosters Ramble is a Stableford Competition. It is held in November. The arrangements are similar to the Seniors Closed. All entry fees less lunch costs are returned in ‘liquid’ prizes.
 

In addition to the above, The Howard Durrant Cup is awarded to the highest placed SGC competitor in the Seniors Open Competition held in June.
