Weekly News Update – Week 42
The Club is currently offering winter golf membership.
Promote our Club by inviting along family, friends or colleagues who might be interested in learning or playing. For more information on this offer click here.
In November, 4 months membership will start from £200. This is great offer and opportunity to enter into club golf either permanently or as taster.
The Junior Team after finishing as runners-up to Ferndown in the Dorset County Junior Team KO Competition in August progressed to the preliminary stages of the South West Regional Finals.
Ferndown as Champions had first choice of venue and chose to play at Salisbury and South Wilts, whilst we were drawn to play at Launceston. We progressed (fortuitously) to the SW Final at Cumberwell unlike Ferndown didn’t get through which probably illustrates the quality of the teams.
In the SW Regional Final we finished 3rd behind Wrag Hall (Wiltshire) and Bramshaw (Hampshire) and ours was no mean performance, especially as we were playing with one less junior than the other Club’s.
It its our intention to enter this competition again next year, and we will be the stronger for it, as all our players will still be eligible to play.
I would like to thank Steve Page, and in particular the parents and relative’s that came to support our players.

The Ladies first ever Away Night due to take place in September at High Bullen Golf Club was eagerly anticipated but disappointingly cancelled at the last minute due to a waterlogged course. The Lady Captain swiftly arranged an alternative Away Day to The Dorset Golf & Country Club and 24 made the journey to Bere Regis on Monday in the gloom and doom of Hurricane Ophelia!
It was a challenging day and although the sun eventually shone in the afternoon, the wind was a force to be reckoned with! The day was brought to a conclusion with a delicious meal, and prizes from the Ladies’ Captain Nicola Pointing, Angela Heysham and Maureen Dimishky won 1st Prize, and the coveted Away Day trophy.
Round up of the Club Sections:
The Ladies section can now sign up electronically to enter Ladies competitions. To book a tee time the Ladies have two options available, the touch screen in the Pro Shop or Online, 3 weeks prior to the competition.
Result: Ladies October Stableford Winner, Chrisse Pearce
The Seniors section after finishing the season off with a convincing win against Yeovil their main focus will be split between social golf and a number of winter competitions. All the latest news can be found on the Seniors noticeboard or Members area under Senior Section.
Results: Monthly 9 hole winner, David Lyscom
October Stableford winner, Martyn Jewell
The golf course has now been officially remeasured by DCGU to include Blue tees and a 9 hole course. Once the course yardage is confirmed the CSS and SI will be reviewed by the Golfing Committee along with the handicap secretary. In due course new score cards will be printed.
Members who wish to play from the Blue tees may not be aware that the 1st and 12th holes have recently had 2 new tee positions constructed. The new Blue tees positions are: Hole 1, on the left side in front of our neighbours hedge, Hole 12, on the left side of the fairway within the semi rough area forward of the bushes.
For your HEALTH & SAFETY please note that golf bags and trolleys are not to be left inside by the front entrance door. TROLLEY STORE, if you use the trolley store please always fold your trolley before putting in the store to allow space for all others to use.

Landscaping the new 3rd tee should be completed by the end of this week, all newly seeded areas will benefit from soil temperature still being high.
Important points to remember:
ALWAYS check the Club (PDF) diary on the Clubs website before planning your golf.
ALWAYS on arrival check for any course updates which can be found on the external “white board” or if in doubt ask the Pro Shop. Daily course updates can be due to weather or course maintenance.
ALWAYS remember to repair divot and pitch marks!
ALWAYS keep up the pace of play and encourage members in your groups to play READY GOLF. SGC supports the R&A in READY GOLF and therefore the Club will NOT tolerate any SLOW play.
