Tom Plumb Wins West Of England Open Amateur Championship
Tom Plumb, Tom Lawrence and Matt Sandy of Sherborne Golf Club all finished in the top 32 at the strokeplay first round of the West Of England Open Amateur Championship held at Burnham & Berrow Golf Club Thursday last week and qualified for the match-play knock-out finals stage held Friday to Sunday last week.
Matt Sandy reached the Quarter-final and Tom Plumb went all the way to become the overall winner in the 36-hole Final on Sunday. In the morning round of the Final Tom shot a tremendous 7-under par on the testing Burnham & Berrow course, playing such brilliant golf he amassed a 9-hole lead over his opponent after the first 18 holes, before eventually winning 11 up with 10 to play in the afternoon.
Sherborne Golf Club Captain Jack Crockett said “Young Tom is just 17 years old, he joined us last year and we have great pleasure in congratulating him on this win. Tom Plumb is a name our Club will remember with pride as we watch his progress in the future and let’s not forget Sherborne had three finalists in the West of England Championship this year”
