Ready Golf

COURSE ETIQUETTE (2018)

PACE OF PLAY

We expect all members to play READY GOLF.

The Committee has set the Pace of Play guidelines to be for a 4 ball: –

Holes 1 – 11 > 2hrs 30mins

Holes 12 – 18 > 1hr 30mins

It is a group’s responsibility to keep up with the group in front. If you lose a clear hole you must invite the group behind to play through, irrespective of the number of players in that group. The term “group” includes a single player.

Ready Golf scenarios (but not in match-play golf, unless agreed)

  • Hitting a tee shot or a fairway shot, if the person with the honour is not ready to play.
  • Shorter hitters to play first from the tee or fairway if longer hitter has to wait.
  • Playing your shot first before helping another player look for their ball.
  • Putting: Be ready to putt when it is your turn, putt out rather than marking ball. Give consideration to others putting line.
  • Leave trolley/buggies at your exit from the green.
  • Mark scores after you leave the green or while you are waiting to play on the next tee.
  • Proceed with Health & Safety in mind at all times.

Lost Ball

If a player believes his ball may be lost outside a water hazard or out of bounds, he should play a provisional ball.

Players searching for a ball should signal the players in the group behind them to play through as soon as it becomes apparent that the ball will not be easily found. Having allowed the group behind to play through, they should not continue play until that group has passed and is out of range.

Priority on the Course

Club knock-out matches will no longer have absolute precedence on the 1st Tee. Each match or friendly game will take its turn when starting from the 1st Tee. Any match starting from the 12th Tee will alternate with groups waiting at the 1st Tee.

Exceptions to the above are as follows:

(a) When a tee reservation for an Inter Club Match or a visiting Golf Society has been booked, as shown in the club diary, club web site or in the “Week Ahead Report” published weekly by the Office.

(b) All Club competitions with a start sheet.

(c) When a knock-out match needs extra holes to decide the winner, players waiting on the 1st tee will alternate their start with the knock-out match coming off the 18th.

(d) Priority on the course should be given to Inter club & Knock out matches but they in turn should practice good etiquette & if holding up other groups, ask them to play through.

Play before ladies competitions on Thursday is allowed in 2 and 3 balls only, 4 balls are not allowed unless otherwise advised.
